Rewriting To Kill a Mockingbird

One of the best ways to perform a close reading of any work of fiction is to rewrite the text from another character’s point of view.  Each student selected a scene from the book and retold it from another point of view.  They had to be as accurate with respect to the facts in the novel, but they got the chance to develop a character’s unique voice.  Today we performed peer edits on these revisions.  Look below–see how the students are verifying information by returning to the book?  That shows they are performing a close reading of the text.
